US new subscription signups and new orders paused for now
Here’s how we’re handling tariffs the US is imposing on Canada, and the de minimis exemption for parcels entering the United States which ended August 29th.
The ‘de minimis exemption’ is gone in the United States for low value parcels entering the US effective August 29th due to an executive order by the US administration. It used to be (for around 90 years) that parcels valued under a certain threshold entered the US duty and tariff free. From the 1930s it was a $200USD limit, and in 2015 that limit increased to $800USD.
How will this change shipments to the US?
We have been forced to pause shipping to the US – with the end of the de minimis threshold august 29th in the US, it means every parcel needs to have a formal entry (so we have to prep paperwork with the FDA, with Zonos who collects brokerage fees and tariffs, which for Canada sits at 35% from the Trump executive orders, and regular customs forms) – for the two of us its unfortunately unsustainable to keep US shipping open right now. This is due to the paperwork load, the logistics/shipping software we use that has not caught up to this change yet, as well as the incredibly high tariff imposed on Canada by the US, making orders unreasonably expensive for our US customers.
We kept some current subscribers on (with the 35% tariff increase for those who opted in), but even maintaining that has been a huge challenge.
We really hope the legislation changes because we’re really bummed about it – our US support is huge so it’s taken a toll.
We’ll be as loud as we can when we can open shipping to the US up again,
